Never Look Back
Never Look Back
Dick Brant
Never look back, as they say at what might have been. Oh for sure, things could be different, but at the time, we made the best decisions we could.
It could be you look back and think, if I just was a better student in school, life now would be better. Or it might be that you think, if I just had a better job, then life would be better.
It could be the place you are living. Oh, if I just lived in California, I would have a better life and a better job, and that just might be true.
I suppose we all have those, "woulda," "shoulda," "coulda," moments thinking if I had just done ---- and things would have been different for my family and me.
But the good news is, if we really want things to be different, we can make the change. Do the things necessary to make our lives more the way we think they should be. Of course, it will take some effort on our part, but it is do able.
Now as we think about the Christian life, there is no going back or even looking back. There is only one path that leads to eternal life. In Luke 9:62 Jesus said it this way, "No one after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
As we live the Christian life, there should be no regrets. There is not a better place; there is not a better way. For sure as we look around us, we can see others living a life filled with the so-called, " good things" of this life, and we wonder why can't I have, and you can fill in the blank.
The choice to be a Christian, and follow God each day, seeking eternal life with Him, is not dependent on your level of education, the job you have, where you live, or the things you have accumulated. It is faithfulness to Him that will make the difference. As for things, well, they will all be left behind.
Consider God's Words as recorded in 1 Corinthians 2:9, "But just as it is written, Things which the eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which things have not entered into the heart of man, God has prepared for those that love Him."
Lastly, consider the words of Paul as recorded in 2 Timothy4:7-8, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will award me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing."
So, as you think of this life and think of what might have been, remember more often and more clearly what will be your eternal future. See you there!
