Fishers of Men
Fishers of Men
Don Marquis once said, "Our idea of fishing is to put all the exertion up to the fish. If they are ambitious we will catch them. If they are not, let them go about their business."
When it comes to evangelism, this quote proves all too true at times. Some Christian's idea of "fishing for men" is simply to sit there and hope for the person to come to them. Little effort is put forth. Little is done to start conversations or pursue possible contacts. We get scared. We get busy. We get nervous. We want all of the exertion to be done by the person, not ourselves. And yet, no matter our feelings, it still doesn't change Jesus' command.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:19-20).
"Go" takes effort. "Teach" takes effort. Getting someone to the point of "baptism" takes effort. Let's be "fishermen" who really put forth some exertion into reaching others and not leave it all up to the "fish." We want to get to heaven and take as many with us as we can. Let's pray for open doors and have the courage to walk through them when they come. --Copied
