Especially for Teens
A home can exist without children, but most homes do have children. Children are a blessing from God (Psalm 127:1, 2, 3). Since God designed the home – it is natural to assume He has instructed us on the children’s place in the home. Let us take a look at some of His instructions.
Honor and Respect Parents – “Cursed is the one who treats his father or mother with contempt” (Deuteronomy 27:16). One of the 10 Commandments deals with children’s responsibility to parents (Exodus 20:7).
Be Obedient to Parents – God commanded it (Ephesians 6:1, 2). To obey is to be in subjection.
Learn to Work – It is necessary for men to provide for their families (1 Timothy 5:8). Boys will become men – they must learn this responsibility. It is necessary for women to be “workers at home” (Titus 2:5). Girls will become women with this responsibility.
To Care for Ages Parents and Relatives – There may come a time when provision must be made by children and grandchildren. “But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents: for this is good and acceptable before God” (1 Timothy 5:4).
Recognize Their Responsibility to God as Young People – Remember God, while you are young (Ecclesiastes 12:1). Enjoy being young, but realize judgment is coming (Ecclesiastes 11:9). Be a good example (1 Timothy 4:12). Run from lusts (2 Timothy 2:22) and abstain from them (1 Peter 2:1).
